Teeth must be extracted when they are extremely loose and mobile, badly decayed, or irreparably damaged. Your dentist will only extract your teeth if a crown or filling is unable to restore them. Treatments for extraction may be simple or require bone cutting (Surgical Extraction). A tooth that has not fully emerged—that is, fully entered the oral cavity—is said to be impacted. Full bony impaction causes the impacted tooth to be fully encased in bone; partial bony impaction causes it to be partially encased in bone; and soft tissue impaction causes it to be just encased in soft gum tissue.
